Bible First Aid NotebookWhen I was eight years old, my camp counselor asked our cabin to create a Bible First Aid notebook. She explained that whenever we were in trouble, we should be able to connect with God through a statement of truth from the Bible. For example when a challenge arises, we can know that: Ps 46:1 We can always depend on God to deliver us from trouble. Some of the Bible verses in my notebook include: When you just don’t see how you can accomplish anything, know that: Phil 4:13 If you are afraid, think to yourself: Ps 56:3,4 II Tim 1:7 Luke 12:32
Use the above verses to handle fear. Whenever you don’t feel you are smart enough to get a task accomplished, you can open the Bible to: Ps 19:7 Through the years, I’ve had numerous Sunday School classes create a Bible First Aid book. Getting started:
Other examples: This activity can go on for years. Set aside five to ten minutes of class each Sunday during the summer to help your pupils get started. Then select the first Sunday of the month to share what they are including in their notebooks as well as to add a few more verses. I still have the one I started many years ago at camp. It is a treasure trove of Bible verses that I eventually committed to memory so I’d always have them close at hand, proving God is a very present help in trouble. |
