Father's in the Bible

Categories: Fatherhood

In light of Father's Day, you might want to look at some of the dads in the Bible. While you can review the facts and information about different father figures in the Bible, take time to imagine the kind of father each man might have been.

Example:

  • What kind of a dad do you think Joseph was to Jesus?

Let's start with what we know about Joseph

  • Was he a kind man?
  • How do we know?
    • When he found out Mary was going to have a baby that wasn't his child, he refused to have her stoned to death. Instead, he listened to the angel, Gabriel, who talked to him in a dream and told him to marry Mary.
    • He was obedient and protective of his family because he listened to and obeyed the angels every time they told him to move – whether to Egypt to get away from Herod or to Nazareth, Mary's hometown, to raise Jesus.

Read some Bible stories and look for Dads, and then for clues that tell us what kind of dad each one was.
