A Biblical Bulletin Board (Sunday School Bulletin Board)Categories: Sunday School Bulletin Boards Subject: "You, the Image and Likeness of God" This bulletin board is based on the idea from Genesis 1, where God created man in His image and likeness. I placed four of the following Bible quotes on this subject across the top of the board, but they can be put anywhere. And you can find more quotes, I'm sure. Gen 1:27 God created man in his own image. Leviticus 19:2 ...ye shall be holy; for I the Lord your God am holy. Matthew 5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. John 5:19 The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do... I Corinthians 13:12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. Illustrations for these verses stem from the concept of "reflection." HOW TO FIND PICTURES ON THE INTERNET:
Mounting your pictures on colored paper makes each picture sturdier and links them together as a group. The major section of my board is filled mostly with animals and birds reflected in nearby lakes or streams. But there are also pictures available of creatures looking into mirrors. If you can't find enough animals or birds, then mountains and trees reflected in lakes can also be effective. There are also pictures on the internet of babies and children discovering their images in a mirror. Search for "child mirror" on the internet. I found about 36 of them. These are delightful. They can be intermixed with the animal reflections, or tacked in place of them, or used as a border. I chose to print them all the same size - 2 1/2" x 3 1/2", 8 or 9 per page. I cut the pictures out; then I cut long strips of black poster board and glued the pictures on so that they resembled film strips. I decided to include our Sunday School children in this Bulletin Board project. I provided them with colored file cards, which I found at the drug store, and I provided a question: I asked them what it meant to them to be the image and likeness of God. I got answers right away, some with hand-drawn illustrations. Some took the cards home for more thoughtful consideration. I provided bright brass-colored tacks and a small tack hammer so they could place their own card on the board. The little ones will need help. They love to choose where theirs will go. Sunday School teachers can help students understand the concept of reflection by having a mirror in their classrooms and having a discussion on the subject. Adults can also be included in this thought-provoking project. Olene Carroll |
