My Favorite Teacher (Sunday School Bulletin Board)

Categories: Sunday School Bulletin Boards

This "Back to School" bulletin board can be used for the month of "September". It can be placed in a Sunday School or parochial school or for home schoolers. I titled it "MY FAVORITE TEACHER?", referring to God. The main text comes from the Bible - Isaiah 40:2, as well as from Psalms, Proverbs and Job. As for Bible Versions I chose The Message and The Living Bible, but others will work, too. The verses tell a story when placed in order. I chose a child's font on yellow background looking as if it was on a lined pad, but it could also be made to resemble a blackboard or whiteboard. See how the message develops:

Have you ever heard of a teacher like him? Job 36:22 (The Message)

Who else knows the weight of all the earth? Isa 40:12 (Living Bible)

Who else weighs the mountains and the hills? Isa 40:12 (Living Bible)

Who else has held the oceans in his hands and measured off the heavens with his ruler? Isa 40:12 (Living Bible)

Who is wise enough to number all the clouds? Job 38:37 (Living Bible)

Who marches this army of stars out each night, counts them off, calls each by name - so magnificent, so powerful - and never overlooks a single one? Isa 40:26 (The Message)

He knows the number of hairs on your head. Luke 12:7 (Living Bible)

He knows everything inside and out. Isa 40:28 (The Message)

This next list of Bible verses are secondary. You may use them or not: How blessed the man you train, God. Ps 94:12 (The Message)

He knows just what to do, for God has made him see and understand. Isa 28:26 (Living Bible)

You got me when I was an unformed youth, God, and taught me everything I know. Ps 71:17 (The Message)

All your children will have God for their teacher - what a mentor for your children! Isa 54:13 (The Message)

Yes, wiser than my teachers, for I am ever thinking of your rules. Ps 119:99 (Living Bible)

Knowing God results in every other kind of understanding. Pro 9:10 (Living Bible)

Teach me to see what I still don't see. Job 34:32 (The Message)

The Great, the Mighty God, the Lord of hosts, is his name. Jer 32:18 (King James)

Any pictures of school are appropriate - classrooms, kids studying. Pictures of the solar system and especially the earth held in the palm of a hand are most appropriate plus pictures of globes. Also fun are pictures of children learning on the computer and teachers teaching in the classroom. To display a man like Albert Einstein might fool some in thinking that he might be favorite teacher. And that's fun too.

I also gathered from around the house - measuring devices - various rulers, slide rules, yardsticks, protractors, calipers, dividers, compasses to be hung on the board for added interest.

I like to create borders for my bulletin boards. I chose pictures on the internet of early school houses, school buses, colored pencils and a worm in a red apple resting on books. I printed them 2x2 inch square and glued them on 2 1/2 inch wide posterboard strips - black, or red. These picture borders can be placed horizontally on the top and bottom of the board and the yardsticks placed vertically.

Students can bring pictures from home or do some of the artwork. The more children are involved in a board, the more they will learn about a subject.

Happy school year!
