While we were away at an outdoor family camp, our son, Nicholas, became ill with a fever, coughing, loss of appetite, and other symptoms. While he was lying in bed, his main desire was that we read to him from the Bible. We love to turn to the Bible for support and healing, for as it says in Psalms (46:1), "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." The passages I read with Nicholas, including many from the book of Psalms, were comforting to him and helped him become peaceful and fall asleep.

At one point, he was extremely frustrated that he was unable to participate with the other children in one of his favorite highly energetic games. He was crying and inconsolable. My husband and I took the time to reach out to God more earnestly. We turned to God with a deeper trust, as it says in the Bible: "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding" (Proverbs 3:5).

Within a short time, Nicholas sat up in bed and said that he was extremely happy, but he didn't know why. He was just simply HAPPY and could not stop smiling. His countenance was beaming, and he said it didn't matter that he was not playing with the other kids. He just felt loved by God, and that was all he needed.

We read more passages from the Bible and were uplifted and joyous, knowing that God was taking care of him. The fever left Nicholas right then, and he was on his way to full recovery. He even participated in a talent show a couple days later, requiring him to exert lots of energy for his dance routine with his brother.

We are very grateful for all the healing messages that the Bible contains, showing us how we can turn to God in a very practical way to face any challenge.
