God Loves Man's Best Friend Too!

Even when our pets aren't feeling well, we can know that they are in God's ever-present care.

I have a great little four-legged friend named Max. He is a Bichon-Yorkie mix who is full of energy, love, loyalty, and lots of playfulness. Recently, I witnessed an incredible healing of Max.

Normally Max cannot wait to go outside for any reason, especially to walk or play fetch. But one day, he became quite lethargic, uninterested in eating, wouldn't fetch even his most favorite squeaky toy, and woke up every hour on the hour during the night to go outside to either vomit or relieve himself.

When I saw blood as he relieved himself, I knew he needed more focused care and attention. I began to pray earnestly about this situation. Two words came to me that I knew were from a larger passage in the Bible. Those words were "inward parts." I called a dear friend to help me pray for Max. From her, I found out that those words were from Jeremiah 31:33: "But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people."

I loved this idea -- that it was God's law working on Max's inward parts, not a law of disease. I thought about this when fear tried to totally take over my thinking. I thought about God's law being a principle, and that this principle was operating within him -- literally operating in his "inward parts."

The next day when I called this friend again, I could hear her granddaughter in the background laughing and talking. I got to speak with this little one briefly. I asked her how she was. There was a long pause on the phone. I could hear my friend telling her what to say: "Say, I'm fine. Thank you." She came back on the phone and said in the sweetest, childlike way, "I'm fine. Tank-oo." This, of course, made me laugh. When my friend regained the phone, she said to me, "And tell Max to say he's 'fine thank you,' too!"

Later that day, I took Max for a walk. He was getting better. He was eager to go outside and was definitely more alert and noticing squirrels and birds again. As I walked, I was listening to hear what God had to say to me. A very clear message came to my thinking: "There is no absence of God. There is no antithesis to God…only the ever-present now-ness of divine Love." In other words, there is no place were God is not present, no opposite or opposing power to God -- only Love, being and existing everywhere right now. I loved these ideas.

Well, the very next day, Max was completely restored to normal. He slept through the night. He was so enthusiastic about breakfast that he could hardly contain himself. The same was true for his morning walk. He wagged his tail and practically pulled me out the front door. All of the prior evidence of internal disruption was completely gone, and this has remained true to this day. This was such a clear example of God's love and how His law applies to each and every one of His ideas – even our four-legged friends.
