My six-year-old sister and I were playing miniature golf on a black-light course. The 18th hole was so dark that I couldn't see where my sister was standing. When she swung her putter, it hit me right in the mouth. I was startled and it hurt. I could taste blood. One of my aunts took me out to the light. One of the workers ran to get ice and my aunt got wet towels. She told me I was safe. God was right there loving me. She repeated this verse from Psalms 46:10 (to :) "Be still, and know that I am God." She told me I could hear God's messages of love to me if I just listened. She examined my mouth, all the while telling me I was perfect.

My sister and my other aunt came out to comfort me. My aunt reminded me of the lesson in Sunday school that morning about how David learned a lesson in forgiveness. My sister was crying hard because she didn't mean to hit me. I gave her a hug and told her I forgave her. She smiled and told me she loved me. We both knew we could trust God to be a very present help in trouble. [Ps 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. ]

The bleeding stopped immediately, the pain was gone, and the swelling was over in 5 minutes. The movie we had planned to see started in ten minutes and I was ready to go. While I watched the movie, I sat and ate chips and water without any discomfort.

I truly felt God's love and ever-present care for me.
